Tough Start to New season
BLUEProfile.com, the senior side of the Club started its
venture into the East Midlands League with a difficult tie away at
Loughborough.
This first outing was always going to be hard against very
experienced opposition made up of officials and coaches from the
Volleyball England head offices. This was always going to be an uphill
struggle and with only 6 players to choose from the score reflected a
somewhat frustrating result which resulted in a 3-0 defeat. (
25-16,25-15,25-17.)
The second match, a home fixture against Melton, saw a full
squad fielded and it was not long before the team showed what they can do
taking the first set with some powerful outside hitting from Aaron Talbot
and middle domination from Richie Valentine. The second and third sets
went the way of the visitors as the home side lapsed concentration, and it
was not until the fourth set that the team settled and started to gel
together. Consistent setting by Phil Leach put the home side back in
contention and levelled the game at 2-2. The fifth set saw a fantastic
start by BLUEProfile.com and at the change of ends they lead the visitors
8-3, and the set was soon won by 15-6 and by 3 sets to 2.
BARGE START IMPRESSIVE DEFENCE OF TITLE
The Barge and Bottle, the development team of Sleaford
Volleyball Club started the season with an away fixture to local rivals
Spalding Saracens. With the basic six players to choose from, the Barge
started slowly but soon found their stride with some fine defensive and
attacking play from all players. And as the match progressed the team
became more confident and took the match 3-0 with an all round fine
display. A good start for the league champions, but both teams can be
assured that there will be much harder fixtures to follow in the coming
weeks.
